A natural Homeopathic approach to Adrenal Fatigue

Adrenal fatigue

Tis the season to be jolly and totally stressed out of your mind with all the mad shopping, lock downs, money worries with businesses closing down, isolation, people losing their jobs and families being prevented from seeing each other, Ho Ho Ho Ho Ho……

Stress, anxiety and depression can and do have an affect on the adrenals and when this happens the symptoms that occur are not always recognised as adrenal fatigue, but rather we put it down to just being a ‘little stressed and off colour ’ well you are stressed, but it’s having an effect not only your mental wellbeing, but also your physical health.

About the adrenals.

The adrenals glands sit on top of the kidneys. The outer part of the adrenals is responsible for the production of cortisone, cortisol, aldosterone, and androstenedione and dehydroepiandrosterone otherwise known as (DHEA). The central part of the adrenals secretes adrenaline that’s also called epinephrine and norepinephrine.

Adrenaline, cortisone and norepinephrine are the stress hormones. Cortisone helps you to metabolise carbohydrates, as well as helping to regulate blood sugars and balance salt and water in the body, but this is only a small part of what the adrenals are responsible for.

When we are under stress the body triggers what is known as the fight or flight response because, it can’t tell the difference between and actual threat and an imagined threat. A message is then sent to the hypothalamus, the hypothalamus then signals the adrenal glands to release adrenaline and cortisol into the bloodstream, but this also floods the body with cytokines to help prepare the body for a possible injury, but injury rarely happens, because usually we’ve entered this state due to stress and psychological factors and not an actually physical threat and so inflammation occurs in the body as a direct result of these hormones being released that are not needed.

when we are under constant stress the adrenals are put under more and more pressure and so they can become depleted of the essential hormones and health problems can occur with the following symptoms

· weakness

· dizziness

· low blood pressure

· fatigue

· Memory loss

· Headaches

· Allergies

· Difficulty sleeping

· Moody behavior

· Nausea

· Depression

· Fainting

· Cravings for salt

There are steps that you can take to help minimise adrenal fatigue, such as learning to relax, meditation and eating the correct foods will play a significant role.

if we eat too much sugar then the adrenals will believe that we are in danger, because the pancreas will release insulin to remove this excess sugar that we have consumed, but in doing this too much is removed and so the liver that stores reserves of glucose will release more into the blood stream in order for us to function correctly, but when this happens our body believes that the depleted glucose occurred because we must be in dangerous situation and running for our lives, which is why the depletion of glucose occurred, when in fact it was because we consumed too much sugar in the first place that then had to be removed by the pancreas releasing the insulin, and so the message is sent to the hypothalamus with sets up the fight or flight reaction which results in releasing the stress hormones, So now we can see how the stress hormones enter the body if we are on a high sugar diet and why it is important to limit our sugar intake, especially if life has been particularly challenging in recent months.

Vitamin B this is essential for adrenal function

Vitamin c also helps the adrenals function correctly

Coenzyme not only helps with the functioning of the adrenals, but it also helps to reduce stress.

Minerals Anyone suffering with adrenal fatigue will also be depleted in minerals, especially magnesium, potassium and zinc

Herbs such as milk thistle and St johns wart can also help.

Homeopathy is of huge benefit when it comes to tackling adrenal fatigue as there are many reasons why a person could have started to suffer. It could be down to stress or depression or it maybe you have just been doing too much and burning the candle at both ends.

The beauty of homeopathy is that it’s tailored to fit the individual, so for instance, if you have been suffering from anger that could have been brought on by grief after losing someone but you’ve suppressed your emotions, then you may well need Nat-Mur. If you have been feeling isolated and abandoned that has brought about a feeling of weakness and fatigue and desperation then you may well need Arsenicum and feelings of prolonged isolation and loneliness could be helped with Pulsatilla, especially if for a long period of time you have felt abandoned which has caused anxiety.

There are many many Homeopathic remedies that can aid in the recovery of adrenal fatigue and Homeopathy treats you as an individual and not just a symptom that needs to be corrected, it gets to the root cause of the problem and helps you to process a situation and supports the body and the mind.
